It gives us immense pleasure to present Pharmaceutical Dosage Forms: Liquids, Pressurized Systems and Semisolid Dosage Forms, a textbook prepared in accordance with the latest Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm.) syllabus prescribed by the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, to be implemented from the academic session 2026–2027. The revised curriculum emphasizes competency-based education, outcome-oriented learning, experiential training, multidisciplinary knowledge, and the development of professional skills required for modern pharmacy practice.

Pharmaceutics forms the backbone of pharmaceutical sciences by providing students with the scientific principles involved in the design, formulation, manufacturing, evaluation, packaging, storage, and dispensing of pharmaceutical dosage forms. A sound understanding of dosage form development enables future pharmacists to ensure the safe, effective, and rational use of medicines while meeting the evolving needs of patients, healthcare professionals, and the pharmaceutical industry.

This book has been carefully written to meet the learning requirements of B.Pharm students studying under the revised PCI 2026 curriculum. The contents strictly follow the prescribed syllabus, ensuring complete coverage of all topics without unnecessary additions or omissions. Every chapter has been presented in a logical sequence, beginning with fundamental concepts and progressing towards formulation development, manufacturing processes, quality evaluation, packaging considerations, and recent advances in pharmaceutical technology.

The text comprehensively covers Monophasic Liquid Dosage Forms, Biphasic Liquid Dosage Forms (Suspensions and Emulsions), Pressurized Dosage Forms including Pharmaceutical Aerosols, Metered Dose Inhalers (MDIs) and Dry Powder Inhalers (DPIs), and Semisolid Dosage Forms including Ointments, Creams, Gels, Jellies, Pastes, Suppositories, Pessaries, Xerogels, and Emulgels. Each topic has been explained in simple, clear, and student-friendly English, making the subject easy to understand while maintaining scientific accuracy and pharmaceutical terminology.

A special effort has been made to transform complex pharmaceutical concepts into an easy learning experience through the extensive use of flowcharts, tables, comparison charts, process diagrams, manufacturing flow diagrams, and quality evaluation summaries. These learning aids are intended to strengthen conceptual understanding, facilitate classroom teaching, and assist students in revision before examinations.

In accordance with the philosophy of NEP 2020, this book encourages conceptual learning rather than rote memorization. The explanations emphasize the relationship between pharmaceutical principles and their practical applications in formulation development, industrial manufacturing, quality assurance, and patient care. Wherever appropriate, examples from current pharmaceutical practice have been incorporated to help students appreciate the clinical and industrial relevance of the subject.

To further support learning, each unit concludes with a carefully designed set of Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), Short Answer Questions, and Long Answer Questions based on the latest syllabus and examination pattern. These practice questions are intended to strengthen conceptual understanding, improve analytical thinking, prepare students for university examinations, and enhance their confidence during viva voce and competitive examinations.

This book is expected to serve not only undergraduate pharmacy students but also teachers, postgraduate students, research scholars, pharmaceutical scientists, and professionals seeking a concise yet comprehensive reference on pharmaceutical dosage forms. It is our sincere hope that the systematic organization, simplified language, and practical orientation of this text will make it a useful companion for both teaching and learning.

Although every effort has been made to ensure the accuracy, completeness, and relevance of the material presented, pharmaceutical science is a rapidly advancing discipline. Readers are encouraged to consult the latest editions of pharmacopoeias, regulatory guidelines, and current scientific literature for recent developments and updates in pharmaceutical technology.

We shall be grateful to teachers, students, academicians, researchers, and readers for their valuable suggestions and constructive criticism, which will greatly assist us in improving future editions of this book.

We sincerely hope that this book will contribute to strengthening pharmaceutical education, promote a deeper understanding of dosage form design and development, and help students become competent, ethical, and skilled pharmacy professionals capable of serving society with excellence.
